The Root Armor Set is an excellent armor set for Bow builds during the early and midgame portion of one’s Valheim adventure. Bolstering the Bow Skill by +15, this full set is resistant to piercing and poison damage. However, these passive buffs come at the cost of being weak to fire, making this a poor armor option when dealing with fire-inflicting foes like Cultists. Nevertheless, the Root Set is a perfect choice if you are looking for a great lightweight alternative to Iron Armor after Bronze Armor.
How to Craft Valheim Root Armor
To craft the Valheim Root Set, you’ll need Root, Ancient Bark, Leather Scraps, and Deer Hide. Both Leather Scraps from Boars and Deer Hide can be acquired from the Meadows, while Root and Ancient Bark come from the Swamp Biome. Root, in particular, is especially challenging since it is a drop from a formidable monster known as an Abomination.

The Abomination is a massive spider-shaped tree monster that disguises itself as a tree stump before ambushing its prey. Its large size allows it to cover distance with relative ease, meaning that you’ll need lots of Stamina to outrun this beast. According to Valheim YouTuber Kysen, Abominations are weak to fire, making fire arrows a solid counter. If you are confident enough with your ability to parry, then using slashing damage is effective. Otherwise, we recommend killing this monstrosity with ranged attacks. Once slain, Abominations drop trophies, Guck, and Root. You’ll need 30 Roots for the entire Root Armor Set in Valheim.
The other Swamp Biome resource required for the Root Set is Ancient Bark. This material can be harvested from Ancient Trees using a Bronze Axe. Higher-tier axes also can chop this wood type. 30 planks of Ancient Bark are needed for the set’s three pieces. As for Leather Scraps and Deer Hide, you’ll find plenty of these two resources within chests found in the Meadows, Black Forest, and even Plains.
If you’re low on Leather Scraps, consider starting a boar farm by taming boars in Valheim. As long as you have two or more well-fed boars, you’ll have an abundance of meat and leather in no time. For clarification, Root Armor requires a total of four Leather Scraps and four Deer Hides to be crafted. The level of your Workbench will affect the quality and durability of each gear piece, including the upgrade costs.
Valheim is available on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
