Elixirs are a huge part of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, and for good reason. By crafting and combining insects, lizards, or frogs and easily found monster parts at any cooking pot in Hyrule, players can temporarily increase almost any stat in the game. This includes hearts and stamina, the two most important mechanics in Tears of the Kingdom, as well as effects like cold, fire, and shock resistance, which are crucial for exploring the game. Combat stats like stealth, attack, and defense can also be increased, making it easier to defeat any enemies you encounter.

According to all official sources, 14 elixirs can be crafted in Tears of the Kingdom. All the elixirs require at least one monster part, so if you’re looking to craft some elixirs, ensure you’re stocked up on horns, teeth, guts, and tails. We’ve compiled the ten best elixirs into a list below, including recipes for easy reference.

1. Hearty Elixir

Recipe:

  • 1 Hearty Lizard
  • 1 Monster Part

First and foremost, the Hearty Elixir is one of the most important elixirs in the game. With just one Heary Lizard and a monster part, the elixir can fully recover your hearts and give you extra, which is useful when going up against a tough enemy. As you progress through the game, you’ll encounter enemies that could wipe you out with a single hit, so having a Hearty Elixir on hand is a good idea.

2. Energizing Elixir

  • 1 Energetic Rhino Beetle OR Restless Cricket
  • 1 Monster Part

Aside from health, the other most important mechanic in Tears of the Kingdom is stamina. Stamina allows you to paraglide, which is useful for moving between the sky islands. Even on the ground, stamina lets you sprint and swim, so having an Energizing Elixir on hand to refill your stamina is always useful. You can craft this elixir by combining a monster part with an Energetic Rhino Bettle or a Restless Cricket; for our part, we found getting the crickets to be easier.

3. Spicy Elixir

  • 1 Warm Darner OR Summerwing Butterfly
  • 1 Monster Part

Spicy Elixirs are something that Tears of the Kingdom players may find themselves becoming familiar with not long after beginning the game. If you’re looking to explore the colder regions of Hyrule, like Lanayru or Hebra, then bringing a Spicy Elixir makes it easier to explore the cold without Link taking damage. This elixir can be crafted by combing a monster part with a Warm Darner or a Summerwing Butterfly, which can be found in warm climates.

4. Chilly Elixir

Recipe:

  • 1 Cold Darner OR Winterwing Butterfly
  • 1 Monster Part

As a counterpart to the Spicy Elixir, the Chilly Elixir increases your heat resistance, making it easier to explore the hot areas of Hyrule. We don’t recommend entering Eldin or the Gerudo Desert without at least one of these, so Link doesn’t take any damage from the intense heat. This elixir can be crafted with a monster part and a Cold Darner or a Winterwing Butterfly, both found in snowy climates around Hyrule.

5. Sneaky Elixir

Recipe:

  • 1 Sunset Firefly
  • 1 Monster Part

If you’re the type of player who likes to take a subtle approach to combat, then the Sneaky Elixir is your best friend. This elixir boosts your stealth stats, meaning Link is quieter when he moves. As a result, it’s far easier to sneak up on enemies and perform Sneakstrikes after you’ve downed a Sneaky Elixir. As a bonus, the effect from this elixir can be combined with the bonuses from stealth gear sets, potentially making Link a silent threat to monsters all over Hyrule.

6. Electro Elixir

  • 1 Electric Darner OR Thunderwing Butterfly
  • 1 Monster Part

Another resistance potion, the Electro Elixir, increases your shock resistance, meaning you take less damage from lightning and shock-type enemies. This elixir is particularly useful for exploring the jungles of the Faron region, where thunderstorms are common, and the Gerudo Desert, where electric-type enemies are commonly found. This elixir can be crafted using a monster part and an Electric Darner or Thunderwing Butterfly. These insects can commonly be found in Faron, but take note that they only appear when it rains.

7. Sticky Elixir

Recipe:

  • 1 Sticky Frog OR Sticky Lizard
  • 1 Monster Part

A new addition to Tears of the Kingdom, Sticky Elixirs allow Link to climb slick surfaces more easily. This makes climbing easier in the rain or on ice, which is useful for exploring caves and cliffs come sun, rain, or blizzard. Sticky Elixirs can be crafted by combining a monster part with a Sticky Frog or Sticky Lizard, both of which can usually be found on cliffs or in caves and wells.

8. Hasty Elixir

  • 1 Hot-Footed Frog OR Hightail Lizard
  • 1 Monster Part

Speed is another important mechanic in Tears of the Kingdom. It’s sometimes overlooked, however, in favor of stamina or health, but Link’s speed can sometimes mean the difference between life and death if you’re running away from a monster. The Hasty Elixir comes in handy there, as it temporarily boosts your movement speed while swimming, running, or climbing. This elixir can be crafted by combining a monster part with a Hot-Footed Frog or Hightail Lizard, both common finds on Hyrule’s surface.

9. Bright Elixir

Recipe:

  • 1 Deep Firefly
  • 1 Monster Part

The Bright Elixir is another new elixir in Tears of the Kingdom that goes hand-in-hand with another new feature, the Depths. This elixir temporarily makes Link glow, making it easier for you to see as you explore the inky, Gloom-filled darkness between Hyrule’s surface. In Tears of the Kingdom, this elixir can be crafted with a monster part and a Deep Firefly, commonly clustered in the Depths. Getting multiple fireflies at once is fairly easy, making it easier to make more Bright Elixirs for future exploration.

10. Tough Elixir

  • 1 Rugged Rhino Beetle
  • 1 Monster Part

If you’re the type of Tears of the Kingdom player who finds combat difficult or enjoys a challenge, then crafting a Tough Elixir becomes a necessity. This elixir temporarily increases your defense stat, so Link takes less damage from enemy hits. Swallowing a Tough Elixir before entering a particularly tough fight can sometimes mean the difference between victory and defeat. This elixir can be crafted using monster parts and a Rugged Rhino Beetle, which is a common enemy drop in Central Hyrule and Necluda.
