In a PvPvE extraction game, you can never be too careful, even with friends watching your back in Duo or Trio matches. Dangers, from AI enemies to traps and other players, are always lurking in the corner. One misstep, and bam, you just lost your life. However, it’s not the end; there is a way to be resurrected or revive a teammate in Dark and Darker. Nevertheless, bringing back your friends to the dungeon requires a small, but still vital, sacrifice.

Sooner or later, your teammate — or you — will be struck down by ruthless monsters or other adventurers. Once that happens, do not panic and quickly run to the Portal. You can easily resurrect a downed teammate if you stick around. First, you need to get the fallen player’s Soul Heart by looting their corpse. Remove the player’s chest armor, loot them, pick the Soul Heart, and keep it in your inventory.  Unfortunately, you cannot take enemies’ Soul Hearts and prevent them from reviving their partners.

Afterward, you’ll need to find an Altar of Sacrifice. Often this gray slab of magical rock can be found at the Dungeon Basement level. It looks like a table made of rock with floating, glowing orbs on top of it, so you shouldn’t miss it.

Equip the Soul Heart to one of your hotkey slots and press the assigned button while facing the Altar. It will take 20 seconds and 15% of the Altar user’s health to finally revive a teammate in Dark and Darker. If you don’t have enough health then you won’t be able to start the reviving process. Keep in mind, however, that the resurrected player will appear without any gear! For that reason, it’s always a good idea to loot both the Soul Heart and all of their equipment once someone’s down.

Cleric Resurrection

Aside from that, having a Cleric in your Dark and Darker party can be a valuable asset, as they can revive players. Using the Tier 8 Ressurection spell, any friendly corpse that still has a Soul Heart can be resurrected on the spot. You don’t have to look for an Altar of Sacrifice or reequip them; they’ll be able to continue fighting where they left off.

As you can expect, casting a Tier 8 spell requires a high Knowledge cost, so you will have to keep playing until you gather enough Knowledge gear. If you are a base-level Cleric, this spell might be beyond your abilities at the start of the game.

To recap, here’s how you can revive another player in Dark and Darker:

  1. Remove the fallen player’s armor and loot the Soul Heart from their body.
  2. Set the Soul Heart to a hotkey and take it to an Altar of Sacrifice.
  3. While facing the Altar of Sacrifice, press the Soul Heart hotkey.
  4. After 20 seconds and a sacrifice of 15% of your HP, the revived player will return to the dungeon.
  5. Alternatively, as a Cleric, use the Resurrection spell on a downed player. Make sure that no one has taken their Soul Heart from the dead body.

Dark and Darker is available on PC in Early Access.
