Starfield offers you an immersive space exploration experience. And you will find much more content than you can imagine since each planet is unique not only in terms of landscape but also in flora and fauna. Therefore, in addition to battles and quests, you can also explore planets and complete Survey Slates, which can be sold for good money. Before that, you need to learn how to scan everything in your path. So, read on to find out how to scan the fauna in Starfield.

Scanning in Starfield Explained

Most of the time in Starfield, you will be exploring different planets. And this is not surprising because there are so many, and each one is unique. That’s why you need to scan flora, fauna, and resources and do a survey in Starfield.

Even though scanning in the game is quite simple, it can be quite time-consuming. Fortunately, it can be fixed by upgrading the appropriate skills. First, take out your Scanner by pressing F or LB, depending on whether you play on a PC or console.

To scan fauna in Starfield, you have to point the scanner at the creature you want to scan and press E on the keyboard or A on the controller. However, you have to scan several creatures of the same species to collect 100% of the information about them. Luckily, killed creatures can also be scanned in addition to live ones.

When you scan enough of a creature to reach 100% in Starfield, it will appear in green on your scanner. Fortunately, you can increase the percentage of data received per scan and its range by leveling up the Surveying skill. You should keep scanning the fauna, flora, and resources on the planet until you complete the survey at 100% and get the Survey Slate.

What To Do With the Survey Slates in Starfield

The only use of Survey Slates in Starfield is to earn extra Credits. However, we do not recommend that you sell it to any traders. Instead, find someone who understands the value of this information. Fortunately, there is one at The Eye station in Jemison’s orbit. The person you need is named Vladimir Saal, and he will gladly purchase Survey Slates from you for a lot of Credits.

That’s all you need to know about how to scan Fauna in Starfield. Scanning comes in handy for both collecting resources and earning Credits, so scan everything you see in front of you during your travels. And while you are here, take a look at our guide on how to join Freestar Rangers.
