The time has finally come. After our jungle adventure in Vessel of Hatred, it is time to take the fight where everything began: Skovos. All players will be sailing to this new, gorgeous, yet extremely challenging area to face Mephisto himself. However, since this is an expansion, some of you might be wondering how to access it and how long it takes to access the new content at all. Well, here we’ve made a quick guide to show you how to start the Lord of Hatred campaign in Diablo 4.
Starting the Lord of Hatred Campaign in Diablo 4

Veteran players might already know the drill, but if you’re new and jumping into Diablo 4 for the first time, you should know how campaign states work, including the recent Lord of Hatred one.
If you’re a newcomer, you’ll get to create your character first, and after that, you can select your campaign state. The game will offer you the choice of starting with the base game, Vessel of Hatred, or Lord of Hatred, assuming you own both expansions, that is.
As a new player, we always recommend going through the story in order, but if you want to skip straight to Lord of Hatred, you can do that by selecting that campaign state as soon as you finish creating your character. If you do this, the game will play a cinematic giving you a summary of everything that happened in the base game and Vessel of Hatred. Then again, we recommend playing through it all so you get the hang of the classes, story, and several systems.
Now, old players already know the drill. Assuming you are already up-to-date with the story, all you need to do is track the new quest from your log to get started with the expansion. After a cutscene and a quick quest, you’ll be sailing to Skovos.
How Long Does It Take to Beat Lord of Hatred
Like the expansion before, Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred should take you around 6 to 8 hours, or even 10, depending on the difficulty and how much exploring and dungeon-delving you’re doing on the side. In our case, we focused solely on the story and were able to tackle it under 10 hours. Yet, as we said before, time will vary depending on your build, difficulty, and whether you’re doing your quests with a party or alone.
In any case, jumping into Skovos shouldn’t be challenging, and veteran demon slayers should be sailing to Skovos in no time. So, just make sure you’ve completed everything, and if you’re a new player, take your time and explore everything the base game and its first expansion have to offer. There will be plenty of time to face Mephisto later.
