This article is over 2 years old and may contain outdated information.

Taming a Giant Queen Bee in Ark: Survival Ascended very well might be one of the more difficult tasks in the game and can take quite a bit of preparation and effort. Before you even get started, you’ll need a decent collection of items, including armor, explosives, and weapons, each of which can take a while to obtain. But hey, on the bright side, you’ll never have to struggle to find Giant Bee Honey again. Whether you need it for fishing, cooking, or other purposes, it’ll be right there at your base. Considering how difficult it is to raid a Giant Beehive only to get 5 Giant Bee Honey, this process is well worth it.

There are some very specific items you’ll need to tame a Giant Queen Bee:

  • Rare Flowers
  • Pike or similar weapon to clear out smaller bees

Ark: Survival Evolved Giant Queen Bee Taming Process

First, you should head into the Redwoods, where you can find trees that can’t be chopped down. This is where most Giant Beehives will spawn near the edges of the forest.

1. Locate a Giant Beehive

Giant Beehives can be found either stuck to the side of a giant redwood tree or hanging on the cliffsides around the Redwood Forest. Though, they are most commonly found on the trees themselves. If you want to find one, stick to the outside edge of the forest. You shouldn’t need to travel inside to find one.

2. Suit Up and Destroy the Hive

For this next part of the process, you need to gear up in a full Ghillie Suit. This won’t fully protect you, but it will prevent a lot of bees from seeing you and instantly attacking as you get close to the hive.

Aim your crossbow equipped with a grappling hook just a bit above the hive and zip up to it. From there, put 3-4 C4 Charges on the hive itself and head back to the ground. Step back a safe distance and detonate the C4 Charges.

3. Tame the Giant Queen Bee

After you’ve destroyed the hive, watch closely as the Giant Queen Bee makes her way to the ground, surrounded by dozens of other bees. Equip your Rare Flowers in the lost inventory slot marked as 0, and approach her. Use the E key on your keyboard to interact with her and feed her Rare Flowers until she is fully tamed.

After the taming process, you can pick up the Giant Queen Bee, which will appear in your inventory as a Giant Beehive that you can place down at your base.

Ark: Survival Ascended is now available on PC.

She strives to be a successful gaming blogger, and has no complaint about the hours of game time she used to increase her knowledge of all things “geek”. She primarily writes gaming articles and fantasy novels. Ark: Survival Evolved is a favorite, along with Diablo 3, Warframe and Minecraft lately, though you can’t forget the good old Magic the Gathering card game! Writing about games truly gives her joy as it gives her another perspective to look at games from, a reason to really look into the mechanics of the game.
