One of the many things returning to Monster Hunter Wilds is Mantles. For the unaware, these cloaks provide players with different effects during a hunt. Some allow them to be stealthier, some will heal them, and some will increase their damage at the cost of reduced HP. While there is one Mantle you’ll always have equipped on your character, you can add another one that will help you, depending on the hunt. Here, we’ll tell you all about the new Mantles in Monster Hunter Wilds, how to unlock them, and what they do.

[Note: So far, we’ve only discovered four Mantles. We’ll update this guide if we find more]

How Many Mantles are in Monster Hunter Wilds?

At the time of writing, there are four Mantles in the game, without counting the Ghillie Mantle, which you have from the start. The Ghillie Mantle will always be in your inventory, but you can add an extra one for a total of two Mantles during a hunt. If you want to change your current Mantle, you must head inside your Tent and select the “Change Equipment” option. Below are the four Mantles you can get:

Rocksteady Mantle

The first Mantle you’ll get in Monster Hunter Wilds is the Rocksteady Mantle. Despite being the first one, it is quite useful in terms of survivability. It provides an excellent defense buff and makes your hunter immune to certain effects while you have the Mantle on.

  • Unlock Conditions: Finish Chapter 2.
  • Effect: Reduces damage taken and prevents damage reactions when attacked. Grants protection from wind pressure, roars, and tremors.
  • Effect Duration: 90 seconds.
  • Cooldown: 600 seconds.

The Mantle that everyone will likely use the most is the Mending Mantle. Its effect is quite simple, as it only provides heals during the fight. This is an extremely useful specialized tool, especially during difficult hunts when you run out of potions or other healing items.

  • Unlock Conditions: Reach Wyveria during Chapter 3.
  • Effect: Continually restores health for a period of time.
  • Effect Duration: 60 seconds.
  • Cooldown: 600 seconds.

Evasion Mantle

The Evasion Mantle is quite useful, too, but it requires players to become familiar with most monsters’ attacks. Once you perform a perfect evade, the Mantle’s effect will activate, boosting your damage and even letting you perform a few new moves.

  • Unlock Conditions: Finish Chapter 3.
  • Effect: Evading just before an attack triggers a special evasive maneuver that lets you escape unharmed. Upon success, it grants a temporary attack boost and alternative combos.
  • Effect Duration: 90 seconds.
  • Cooldown: 600 seconds.

Corruption Mantle

The most interesting Mantle in Monster Hunter Wilds, and the one that will likely become part of the “meta,” is the Corruption Mantle. Unlocking it will take a very long time, but once you have it, you’ll be able to dish out some ridiculous amounts of damage, assuming you meet the conditions to trigger this item’s effect.

  • Unlock Conditions: Finish Chapter 5 (Defeat Gore Magala).
  • Effect: Decreases health but increases affinity and weapon performance while equipped. Repeated attacks on monsters will further increase your attack power and affinity.
  • Effect Duration: 120 seconds.
  • Cooldown: 600 seconds.
