This article is over 1 years old and may contain outdated information.

The Strange Battery is a special item that you can find on all variants of the fifth stage in Risk of Rain Returns. The only caveat is that it can only be found on Drizzle difficulty. Considering that, it isn’t just a hard item to come by but a difficult one to figure out what to do with it so close to the end of the game. Finding it is easy since it comes in a pretty easily identifiable chest that has a red front, however, it’s the usage that isn’t so easy to come by. So, we’re going to show you how to use the Strange Battery in Risk of Rain Returns.

As we explained, using the Strange Battery isn’t as easy as just reading the text or coming across something in a normal playthrough. Instead, you need to follow these instructions:

  1. Find the Strange Battery in the second to last stage.

  2. Find a keycard and head into the Cabin room in the last stage.

  3. Jump off the cliff and carefully follow the wall on the left until you find an entrance.

  4. Follow the entrance all the way to the left, past three dancing robots, and jump through a small divot that’s there.

  5. Keep going until you come across a chest that takes one equipment to unlock. Using the Strange Battery here.

  6. Finish the game or lose, but find your way back to the Survivor selector.

  7. Start your next run on Rainstorm or Monsoon.

  8. Locate the Strange Battery again somewhere in the second stage.

  9. In the third stage, wait until the 22nd minute to use the teleporter and go to the next stage.

  10. In the Magma Barracks stage, locate Robomando by finding an area that has a rope that goes down into the ground as opposed to an open area.

  11. Robomando will have a green arrow above him which you can use the Strange Battery on.

  12. You can fight him and win or lose against him to unlock him.

The only reason you need to get it the first time is to ensure that it spawns the second time. Items won’t spawn in other levels until you find them for the first time.

Risk of Rain Returns is available for PC via Steam and Nintendo Switch.
