The sequel to the popular survival game The Forest, Sons of The Forest, is now out as a Steam Early Access title. Just like in the previous game, you will need to use your wits and various tools to survive on the island. One of the most important ones, especially for traversing the land and acquiring the Shovel, is the Rope Gun that can be used to make ziplines. Here’s how you can use the Rope Gun and zipline in Sons of The Forest.

Before you can use zip lines and zip-and-zap all over the place, first you need to get the Rope Gun. Finding the Rope Gun is a bit tough, though. According to Sons of The Forest players on the Steam Forum, Rope Gun can be found in “caves” — but it’s not particularly clear which cave you need to loot in order to find it, and the spawn could be randomized!

However, it seems the most consistent place to find a Rope Gun is by going to the western part of the island, as seen in the map from Mapgenie.io above. The cave should be located not far from the place where you can find the 3D Printer. Some players also said it is the one right next to the crash site if you spawn in the forest. But finding the right one is only half the battle; you also have to explore the cave, find the box containing the Rope Gun, and fend off any monstrosities inside. So don’t forget to bring a Flashlight and weapons.

Now, with a Rope Gun in your hand, it’s time to properly utilize it to make your life on the deadly island easier. To be able to use the zipline, first equip the Rope Gun in your Inventory. Then fire by pressing the Left Mouse Button, this will shoot the first anchor point of the zipline to the highlighted target. Then fire the gun again to create the second anchor point, completing your zipline. Then, walk to the zipline with the highest point and press the E key.
