If you thought that June couldn’t get any weirder, allow me to say that you are wrong. While many people know that June is Pride month, some people aren’t particularly excited about it. This made a straight guy named Mark Fitzpatrick start what he calls “Hetero Awesome Fest” in Idaho. The name itself is enough to let you guess how such an event went. Apparently, the two-day festival comes after Fitzpatrick started what he called “Heterosexual Awesomeness Month” last year. He needs to work on his naming skills. Plus, if you keep using the word awesome, this won’t make what you are describing awesome.
In a conversation with Idaho News 6, Fitzpatrick says, “I started thinking, ‘what can we do at Old State Saloon that would be an alternative or something that would be celebrating God’s design for sexuality?‘” Well, the celebrations weren’t that impressive. In a video of the straight pride fest, you see that not many people showed up. I guess they aren’t as proud as they say. They were even playing Little Cowboy’s Ready to Go while someone was clapping; embarrassing. If the video went on any longer, I would have expected to see a tumbleweed passing by. The fest is a great way to waste your money, time, and probably dignity.
People Reacting to the Idaho Straight Pride Fest
It’s safe to say that this Idaho straight pride was ruthlessly mocked. Idaho News 6 also reported that an LGBTQ+ bar mocked Fitzpatrick’s idea by hosting “a ‘But, What About Straight Pride’ show.” The bar owners weren’t the only ones who came after the Hetero Awesome Fest (try to say the name without laughing). One person wrote, “Festival of ignorance and hate. Those must all be MAGAs.” I mean, this is the kind of people you would expect to see there. Another one wrote, “Loser parade.” Now, that’s a better name. One Redditor even shared that they feel pity for those who attend such an event:
“I have to say I feel a certain level of pity for them. I can’t imagine being that scared and angry about something that really doesn’t affect me at all. It must be a miserable existence. I just wish that they would shut the f**k up about it and let people live their lives because they’re doing real harm.”
The comments had some more insults as someone wrote, “F**king losers,” to which one replied by saying, “yep! All 16 of them.” Another person thought that MAGA has a new meaning. “MAGA: Mostly Anti-Gay A**holes,” they added. There was one person who shared my opinion as they commented, “Look at how much of a waste of time and money hatred is.” When one person asked about the name of the festival, someone responded by mentioning how embarrassing the name was. “Assuming there’s only one, it’s ‘Hetero Awesome Fest’ after what looks like a few different iterations. There wasn’t any way to spin it to make it any less embarrassing, so might as well choose a super embarrassing name to go with it.” Maybe next year they will have brighter ideas. I still think that no one will care then as well.
