The Indiana Jones 5 cast just received a new member, Mads Mikkelsen, most notably known for his roles in the television drama series Hannibal and the most recent Hideo Kojima title Death Stranding. As reported by Deadline and subsequently IGN, we don’t know much about the details surrounding the script so we can’t say what will kind of role Mikkelsen will be filling.
If you’re familiar with Mikkelsen from before, you might be inclined to assume that Mikkelsen will be taking up a role of a villain in this movie as well. However, we shouldn’t jump to conclusions. Although I wouldn’t be surprised if Mads does end up a the villain in Indiana Jones 5, it would be refreshing to see him assume a different type of a role. Mikkelsen has demonstrated his craft as an actor many a time and keeps flexing his acting know-how to this day. This remains true even if you don’t count in his nomination for best actor at BAFTAs.
There’s no denying how good of an actor Mad Mikkelsen is, and in my humble opinion, he displays an impressive range when acting. These are just some of the reasons why it would be lovely to see him outside the “villain program” in a film. Case in point:
That was Mikkelsen in his latest film, Riders of Justice.
Indiana Jones 5 was initially to be directed by Steven Spielberg, but now James Mangold has taken the helm. The legendary John Williams will be returning to score to film. As for filming itself, it’s bound to start sometime this summer. Speaking of the Indiana universe, let us remember that an all-new Indiana Jones video game is being developed by MachineGames. The game is independent in terms of creative vision and creative direction, so it’s bound to be a surprising spin on an all-too-well-known IP.
