Nintendo’s summer 2018 showcase featured a line up of new indie games. Going by the term “Nindie”, we got a look at upcoming titles for this year and early 2019.
One interesting game was called Level Head, with trillions of levels made by players and published for others to play through. You can create a level by yourself or with up to three friends. It’s available in November 2018. A Goose simulator is one of the indie games being released in early 2019. It’s currently untitled. You play as a goose and try to cause as much trouble as possible by stealing food, hats, car keys, and rummaging through gardens.
TowerFall is a type of side-scrolling, retro style, archery combat game that is for up to six players with 400 levels to tackle. It’s also exclusive to the Nintendo Switch and is available for pre-purchase today. Treasure Stack seemed to be inspired by games like Tetris. It utilizes a grappling hook to assist in stacking treasure chests of the same color and then connecting them through corresponding keys. It comes out for the Switch this week.
Mineko’s Night Market is coming first to the Switch in early 2019. You play a girl named Mineko who travels through the four regions of a Japanese inspired island. Activities include shopping, travelling, sumo wrestling, dancing, sewing, woodworking, and interacting with a mythical cat the locals worship. It certainly looked like one of the more unique indie games featured.
Samurai Gunn 2 is for one or two players and focuses on an adventure mode. Players can use swords or guns in the quest to combat a mad emperor in a world with an oversupply of gunpowder. This Nindie is a system exclusive coming out in early 2019. Another post-apocalyptic type of game can be found in Bullet Age. You play as a character named Ash to try to save your world – which consists of multiple continents you can explore freely. Despite the heavy subject, this game features cartoon style graphics. This exclusive gets released in November of 2018.
While these are some of the main indie games featured and discussed, there were many others shown. The World Next Door is a “parallel universe” style game coming out in early 2019. Other titles shown were King of the Hat, Desert Child, Into the Breach, Wasteland 2, Bastion, The Messenger, Undertale, Jackbox Party Pack 5, Transistor, Dragon: Marked for Death, and Light Fingers.
