As if the movie industry wasn’t already saturated with superhero flicks, Robert Kirkman’s long-running superhero comic book series Invincible is being turned into a movie. However, there’s a possibility that this one might stand out.

The invincible comic series released its first issue in 2003. It tells the story of a boy living in his father’s shadow. As Mark Grayson’s father Omni-Man is the most powerful superhero on earth. And although he begins developing his own set of skills and powers, he has a lot to live up to. Skybound announced today that Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg will direct, write, and produce the film adaptation for Universal. Kirkman himself seems to be showing a lot of faith in the comedic duo, stating the “surprising, edgy, shocking, and oftentimes blood-soaked story couldn’t be in more capable hands.” When discussing the film Kirkman also said he is “very confident this will be another superhero movie, in a long line of superhero movies that continues to prove that it’s a viable, thrilling genre that will keep people coming back to the cinema for years to come.”’

The duo who has also worked together on films such as Superbad and Pineapple Express will have plenty of source material to work with as last year, Kirkman announced he’s ending the Invincible comic book series with issue #144, which will release sometime this year. However Goldberg and Rogen have previously worked together on another superhero franchise, The Green Hornet, and the film was met with critical and commercial yawns. Hopefully this time round, the pair can bring their legendary comedic charm, and create another classic.
