If you’re looking to gather a crew and sail the deadly seas of Sea of Thieves then you’ll want to call on your best mates to join you. This pirate wonderland is fun enough alone, but really comes to life when you’ve got a ship full of friends to join you on your pirating adventures. While it was originally a Xbox console exclusive, Sea of Thieves eventually did come to PC as well. That said, older games like this are not guaranteed to support cross platform play like we expect today. Is Sea of Thieves cross platform? We’ve ventured out into uncharted waters to get the answer for you.
Is Sea of Thieves Cross Platform?
Yes, Sea of Thieves is fully playable with your friends on either Xbox consoles – the Xbox One, Series X/S – or PC via Game Pass or Steam. In short, if there’s a device that you can play Sea of Thieves on, it will allow for cross platform play. Matching with players on other systems is on by default, meaning you don’t have to do any tweaks in the settings to enable it. Simply load into the game, or invite your friends on your friends list, and you’re ready to set sail!
What’s even better is that the game also has cross progression. This means that you can start your pirating escapades on console and pick up right where you left off on PC later, or vice versa. So long as you have an active Xbox Live account, all your progress and currency will carry over between platforms automatically.
Sea of Thieves is one of Xbox’s most popular online games, with dozens of expansions already released, and a new Monkey Island crossover recently announced at the Xbox Showcase. This will bring the iconic Guybrush Threepwood, LeChuck, and plenty of other crossover characters and locations to the game.
Sea of Thieves is available on all Xbox consoles and PC.
