Celebrated comic book writer James Tynion IV is branching out with the launch of his own production company. Working under the Tiny Onion imprint, the multimedia production company will work in publishing, film, television, and animation. The New York Times bestselling author is responsible for popular series like Something is Killing the Children and The Department of Truth. Now, he has partnered with Lyrical Media to bring written works to the screen. Lyrical Media helps independent artists develop, produce, and finance stories across all platforms. For now, there are no plans to move beyond film, television, animation, and publishing with Tiny Onion.
A Company From Comic Creators For Comic Creators
In a statement for the release of Tiny Onion, James Tynion IV shared that he has spent the last twelve years watching the comic industry from within. In that time, the Eisner-Award winner has worked alongside some of the best talent and biggest publishers. This allows him to see how comics can connect using other media formats and spaces. Now, Tynion has the chance to take all that knowledge he gained and make it work even better — not just for himself, but for future creators in the space.
Tiny Onion aims to bring the brightest minds of comic book production to a full-service independent editorial/design team. This team will look for creative partners and avenues and utilize them to their full potential. However, the company will not operate as a publisher. Instead, it will serve as an intermediary creative service with ties to BOOM! Studios, Dark Horse Comics, DSTLRY, and Image Comics. Essentially, it bridges the gap between creator and distribution.
The Flexibility Of James Tynion IV
Tiny Onion will be handling the bulk of James Tynion IV’s backlis of intellectual property. It is also in the process of developing a bunch of new projects across film, television, and animation. This backlist includes The Nice House on the Lake and WORLDTR33. Tynion shared that the biggest benefit of this independence is flexibility. The creator is already excited about the worlds he is developing through Tiny Onion. This flexibility allows him to sit with each world and figure out the best way to bring them to audiences.
Joining Tynion on this endeavor are Eric Harburn, Courtney Menard, and Jazzlyn Stone.
