Jared Leto has been a busy man the last couple of years in Hollywood, transitioning from a musician to a hotly touted supporting acting. Earlier this year, it was reported that Jared Leto was one of the leading candidates for a possible Tron 3.
In an interview with Rotten Tomatoes, the actor talked about his love of Tron in his childhood.
“For me, when I was a kid, it was Blade Runner, it was Tron, it was The Shining,” Leto told Rotten Tomatoes. “It was these kind of elevated genre movies really blew my mind, as well as films like Clockwork Orange and Scorsese [movies] and the early work of Brian De Palma. But Tron is another one that I feel like is a world that we’re not done with yet. There’s so much more to explore and to see there. I would absolutely love to expand upon the world of Tron and see what we could do to bring that to life.”
Leto has already crossed off one of his favorite series off his list recently, with a supporting role in the critically acclaimed sequel Bladerunner 2049. A leading role in the third installment in the futuristic Disney film would make two childhood dreams come true for the actor, but would it be successful?
While the original 1982 version of the film, starring Jeff Bridges, was met with critical acclaim, it’s 2010 sequel was met with mixed reviews. Despite bringing back Bridges, Tron: Legacy faltered, with many stating the film and its characters lacked emotion and substance.
Alongside that, Leto himself has faced some criticism in recent roles, most notably his role as Joker in Suicide Squad. Yet even Jared Leto seemed to want to detach himself from the role, stating he had never even watched the movie.
It should be interesting to see if Tron 3 even gets made, let alone if Leto gets a leading role. Be sure to check back to the site for updates, as well as all of your other Nerdy News and Needs!
