Months after Jay Leno was granted conservatorship over his ailing wife, Mavis Leno, her condition is raising eyebrows. The comedian and his wife, who is currently battling Dementia, were spotted out and about in Los Angeles running errands. However, Mavis sported an evident black eye during the outing.
The former talk show host drove around the city with his 77-year-old wife in the passenger seat. Mavis had a bruise around her right eye, as seen in photos obtained by In Touch Weekly. Recall that Leno was granted guardianship over his wife in April due to her battle with a severe form of Dementia. He first petitioned the Los Angeles Superior Court in January, seeking to be Mavis’ conservator because her health battles affected her abilities to handle her affairs.
In his petition, The Tonight Show alum sought to control Mavis’ estate and make important decisions about her health. Leno argued that he had mostly been responsible for their finances since their marriage in 1980. Before the conservatorship was signed off on, a court-appointed lawyer interviewed Mavis to corroborate her husband’s request.
“She has advanced dementia, sometimes does not know her husband Jay, nor her date of birth,’ said the lawyer. “She has lots of disorientation.” The report further noted that Mavis “has great faith and confidence” in her husband.
Jay Leno Seeks Living Trust To Protect Wife Mavis
Jay and Mavis’ recent appearance comes after the comedian asked the court to approve a living trust and will. The 74-year-old filed the petition to ensure that Mavis remains well taken care of in the event that he dies before her. The New York native explained that Mavis has only one living sibling and no one else.
“Petitioner is concerned regarding the disposition of their community estate after the first death, whether he predeceases Conservatee or Conservatee predeceases him. He wants to be certain that his wife, Conservatee, is provided for in the same manner as she is now, and that their joint testamentary wishes are fulfilled.”
Jay added in his petition that his nephew and his wife’s brother are the only beneficiaries of the trust. The rest of their estate will be given to charity.
