Jenna Ortega and Winona Ryder may play a mother-daughter duo in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice but their off-screen relationship is even sweeter. Over the past few weeks, fans have loved seeing their dynamic during press interviews. Now, they can’t get over their latest interaction at the Venice Film Festival.
Jenna Ortega and Winona Ryder Go Viral Following Awkward Run-In With Photographers
On Wednesday, Aug. 28, the pair arrived at the Venice Film Festival via water taxi alongside their Beetlejuice Beetlejuice co-star Catherine O’Hara. After exiting their vehicle, the women were surrounded by paparazzi waiting to snap their photo. Although everything started smoothly, things quickly turned awkward when one photographer demanded Ryder and O’Hara take off their sunglasses.
According to a video shared by the Associated Press, the photographer told the stars, “Without sunglasses! Without sunglasses!” Ryder appeared confused about what to do. Although it seemed she preferred to keep her sunglasses on, she may have felt obligated to take them off for the photos.
In a viral video on X, she’s seen turning to Ortega for help. The Wednesday actress appeared to remind Ryder that she didn’t have to comply with the photographer. “No, you don’t have to,” she seemingly told her co-star.
The moment has garnered a lot of attention online. For example, one viral tweet praised Ortega for helping Ryder maintain her boundaries with photographers. “There’s something very comforting about the younger generation encouraging the older generation (who were raised to please & say yes) to maintain their boundaries no matter what,” their post read.
Jenna Ortega and Winona Ryder attended the Venice Film Festival to premiere Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. The film, which is a sequel to the original 1988 Beetlejuice, will hit theaters on Friday, Sept. 6. Apart from Ortega, Ryder, and O’Hara, the movie also stars Michael Keaton, Justin Theroux, and Willem Dafoe.
