Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry, and David Schwimmer are all TV icons. The six actors shot to fame in the 90s on the hit show Friends, and solidified their place in pop culture history soon after. The comedy series is beloved by millions across the globe, even 30 years after it originally aired. The show is still so popular that the cast members were said to be in secret talks to return for a reboot before tragedy struck.
Radar Online reports that Jennifer Aniston and company had been in talks to return for a Friends reboot to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the show. The actors were allegedly offered some big money to reprise their roles. However, after Matthew Perry’s death in October 2023, all plans were scrapped.
Jennifer Aniston and Friends Cast Were In Talks For Big Money Reboot
“Without Matthew, there’s no way a proper reboot will happen,” an insider dished. “The deep tragedy around his death would just be too hard to reference in the context of a comedy. The writers and network bosses have held talks about doing a reboot, but it’s been decided it would be far too poignant with Matthew. There were always bittersweet plots with Friends, but this would just be a step too far.”
Perry was found dead at his home last year. His cause of death was ruled the “acute effects” of the drug ketamine. Since that time, an investigation into his death has been raging and has culminated in arrests.
While a Friends reboot may not be happening, the creators of the show did recently reveal that they’re often approached about doing a series about the characters’ children, per People. At the end of the series, Ross had a son with his ex-wife and a daughter with Rachel. Meanwhile, Monica and Chandler had just adopted twins. All these years later, fans want to know what happened to the characters and their children.
“Creativity is dead. Please just give us original ideas instead of nostalgia-bait unnecessary reboots,” one person wrote on Reddit.
“Great show. Great cast. Epic cameos. It’s timeless. Will be watched and talked about in 1000 years,” another said.
“They could all get together at Chandler’s funeral in the first episode,” suggested another.
Jennifer Aniston and the rest of the Friends cast have stayed quiet on the rumors of a failed reboot. However, they have all made it very clear that they miss Matthew Perry and were devastated by his untimely death.
