Jennifer Aniston has taken to Instagram with a fresh message in the wake of former Friends costar Matthew Perry‘s death. The actress, 54, updated her Instagram Stories this week with a new foundation she has set up in Perry’s name, also revealing what the now-deceased sitcom star would “have been grateful for.”
On October 28, Matthew was found unresponsive in his hot tub following a two-hour game of pickleball. His passing has dominated headlines ever since, although the world has yet to find out the exact cause of his death.
Jennifer Aniston Shares New Message About Matthew Perry
Noting Perry’s past struggles with addiction, Aniston reposted a message from the Matthew Perry Foundation, one set up in his name.
“Please join me and Matty’s family in supporting his foundation – which is working to help those suffering with addiction,” the LolaVie founder wrote. The foundation aims to “honor” the legacy of the man behind Chandler Bing and “be guided by his own words and experiences and driven by his passion for making a difference in as many lives as possible”.
Says He Would ‘Have Been Grateful’ For This
Aniston also included a quote from Perry, known for being open about his substance abuse issues, ones seeing him go through multiple rehab stints over the years.
“He would have been grateful for the love,” Jennifer concluded.
Perry’s stepfather, meanwhile, has taken to X (formerly Twitter) to share a similar message promoting the foundation. “This is not the sort of thing I commonly do, this pitch. But this year is different. And tomorrow is Giving Tuesday. Do what you can; he would have been grateful,” Keith Morrison wrote.
2022 brought interviews galore as Matthew promoted his memoir, one seeing him speak candidly about his addiction battles. In an interview building up to the book’s release, he said: “The best thing about me, bar none, is that if somebody comes to me and says, ‘I can’t stop drinking, can you help me?’ I can say ‘yes’ and follow up and do it.”
The actor added that: “When I die, I don’t want Friends to be the first thing that’s mentioned. I want that to be the first thing that’s mentioned. And I’m gonna live the rest of my life proving that.”
Toxicology reports are still pending to confirm the cause of Perry’s death, although local law enforcement arriving at his Pacific Palisades home on October 28 confirmed that no illegal drugs were on the premises. Likewise, that they didn’t suspect any foul play. Matthew’s private funeral, held shortly after his death, was attended by all five of his former Friends costars.
