Jennifer Coolidge has grabbed an Emmy and a pickaxe as she is joining the Minecraft movie. She joins the star-studded video game adaptation featuring Danielle Brooks, Jack Black, Jason Momoa, Emma Myers, and Sebastian Eugene Hansen.
Jared Hess directs the upcoming film that is currently shooting in New Zealand. Many details are kept in the Nether, including the plot and who The White Lotus star will play. While many people have shifted in and out of the project, the last person to be reported to write the film is Frozen 2 and Hidden Figures scribe Allison Schroeder.
The White Lotus Star Jennifer Coolidge Joins Jason Momoa and Jack Black for the Minecraft Movie
We have been slowly getting new details on the film with this latest update coming from Deadline. This comes two weeks after Black was announced as part of the ensemble. He will play Steve, the default character that players start as when they go around digging and building in the sandbox world.
While she has always kept busy, the Minecraft role for Jennifer Coolidge is just one part of this new era of her career. Much of this was due to her two-time Emmy-winning role as Tanya in HBO’s The White Lotus. In recent years, she has starred in the Oscar-winning film Promising Young Woman, the horror series The Watcher, and the supernatural comedy We Have a Ghost.
Minecraft is a part of an upward movement in which video game adaptations have been well received. Similar to the rise of superhero movies and shows, The Last of Us, Twisted Metal, Sonic the Hedgehog, Super Mario Bros., and more have turned around the perception.
The Minecraft movie will be released on April 4, 2025.
