Deadline has reported that Apple killed the Bad Robot series My Glory Was I Had Such Friends after Jennifer Garner exited the project. The streamer had an order for the series in 2018 from the J.J. Abrams studio and Warner Bros. TV. Reps for the studios or the actress did not comment on the situation.
From the outlet’s sources, Jennifer Garner left the project due to a scheduling conflict. The removal of the series will not mean she is not going to work with the company as she is filming an Apple TV+ series, The Last Thing He Told Me. This will be an adaptation of the best-selling novel by Laura Dave. Although the actress is out of the Bad Robot project, the studio and WB will search for a new home to adapt the novel of the same name by Amy Silverton.
Jennifer Garner exits Bad Robot series, effectively killing it by Apple
According to the report, the writer’s room is still open. They are creating scripts for a pitch to another network or studio to find a new home for the adaptation of the memoir.
The scrapping of the Jennifer Garner series from Bad Robot follows the axing of the studio’s collaboration with HBO. The network decided not to move forward with Abrams’ Demimonde. That situation was different as it was not an actor leaving the project that killed it, but its massive budget of $250 million. To put that into perspective, that would be $20 million less than Stranger Things season 4, which stands as the second most expensive season of TV ever made, right behind the mountainous budget of Amazon’s The Rings of Power, costing about $465 million.
Despite what happened to My Glory Was I Had Such Friends, Jennifer Garner is keeping busy. On top of filming the other Apple series, The Last Thing He Told Me, she will work on the shows Party Down and Can’t Go Home. Her next film will be Fantasy Camp by directors Abby Kohn and Marc Silverstein (I Feel Pretty). The directing duo will also write with Sidney Karger (Saturday Night Live).
Earlier this year, Jennifer Garner starred with Ryan Reynolds, Mark Ruffalo, Zoe Saldana, and Walker Scobell (Secret Headquarters) in The Adam Project.
