Jennifer Garner is reprising the character Elektra in Deadpool 3. This will be the first time Garner has played the assassin in nearly two decades. She first portrayed the character in 2003’s Daredevil, where she starred alongside former husband Ben Affleck. Garner starred the character again in 2005’s Elektra, which was a critical and commercial failure. Despite those failings, many praised Garner’s performance. They loved seeing a woman in the lead in a superhero movie, which was uncommon at the time. In Sean Levy’s new film, Garner is giving life to Elektra again, bringing back Ryan Reynolds as the foul-mouthed mercenary Deadpool.
Jennifer Garner Revisits Elektra in Deadpool 3
Jennifer Garner’s Elektra isn’t the only former Marvel hero appearing in Deadpool 3. Hugh Jackman is also making his 11th appearance as Wolverine. While it seems that Jackman will have a substantial role in the movie, it’s unclear how big Garner’s role as Elektra will be. This could be a multiverse cameo from the character, which could open mean more appearances from other Marvel characters. Ben Affleck may even make an appearance as Matt Murdock/Daredevil.
Or it could simply be a meta joke, which would make sense given Deadpool’s constant fourth wall breaking.
Deadpool 3 will be the first film in phase six of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It will also be the MCU’s first R-rated entry. Levy is serving as director and co-producing with Ryan Reynolds and Kevin Fiege. Reynolds and Levy wrote the script with Paul Wernick, Rhett Reese, and Zeb Wells.
Aside from her performances as Elektra, many will remember Jennifer Garner for her starring role in Alias from 2001 to 2006. She also had supporting roles in Pearl Harbor, Catch Me If You Can, and Juno. She is represented by CAA, Linden Entertainment, and Sloane Offer.
