A Georgia woman has gone viral after sharing a video of herself holding up her drink and whistling to get a server’s attention while waiting for a refill at a busy restaurant. The clip, which has amassed more than two million views on TikTok, has prompted a wave of criticism, with many viewers describing the approach as rude and disrespectful to restaurant staff.
The video comes from Georgia TikTok creator Courtneey Butler, who has built a modest following on the platform by sharing lifestyle and day-to-day videos, often documenting relatable moments from her everyday life. Her latest clip has attracted far more attention than her previous posts, racking up more than 236,000 likes and nearly 6,000 comments as it spread across TikTok.
In the video, an elderly woman in a floral orange top and red shorts can be seen sat at a table. As she’s waiting, she can be seen holding up her empty coffee cup as busy employees can be seen working behind her at their stations. After a few moments, you can hear the impatient woman begin to whistle at the workers in a bid to hurry up and give her a refill. Near the end of the brief clip, you can see a worker get her attention and come over and give her a refill.
The creator captioned the clip, “Whistling and holding your cup in the air for a refill is crazy,” and tagged the video with “#rude.”
Viewers Call Out the Woman’s Behavior
Many viewers felt the woman’s approach was disrespectful toward the restaurant staff. One person wrote, “Whistling at humans is wild to me,” while another added, “Why is it so hard for them to just say ‘excuse me’.”
Others joked about how they would have responded if they had been serving her. One commenter quipped, “I would have walked by and put a penny in it 🤣,” while another, who said they had previously worked at Waffle House, wrote, “I worked at Waffle House people did this to me and I would ask them if they brought a dog in because I know you’re not whistling at me.”
Some said the behavior would have made them less inclined to help, with one person commenting, “she would NEVER get any coffee.” Meanwhile, another appeared to poke fun at the woman’s apparent impatience by writing, “Jesus would’ve returned before I walked over there.”
The clip continues to attract attention on TikTok, with thousands of viewers weighing in on whether the woman’s actions crossed the line or simply reflected frustration over slow service.
