A Jewish student at Rutgers University in New Jersey has drawn attention online after protesting during an event featuring an Israeli soldier. The student delivered a speech criticizing Israel’s actions in Palestine before being escorted out of the room by staff. The incident quickly became a major topic of discussion online because the protest came from a Jewish student speaking publicly against the war and invoking Holocaust remembrance during his remarks.

Videos of the protest spread across several social media platforms. On Reddit, clips of the incident received more than 1,700 upvotes and dozens of comments, while reposts on X, formerly Twitter, gained nearly 100,000 views and over 5,500 likes. Much of the attention centered on the New Jersey student’s identity, with many users pointing out that the protest challenged the assumption that all Jewish people support the actions of the Israeli government or the Israeli military.

In the video, the New Jersey student stands up during the event and speaks about the human cost of the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine. He references casualty figures and condemns the violence taking place in Gaza. During his speech, he also spoke about lessons passed down from his grandmother regarding the Holocaust and the phrase “never again.”

As the protest continued, staff members moved to escort the student out of the room. Even while leaving, he continued shouting statements supporting justice for Palestinians and criticizing the Israeli military. Despite the tense atmosphere, the situation did not turn physical, and the student eventually exited on his own without further escalation.

New Jersey Protest Sparks Online Debate

Online reactions to the video were sharply divided. Many users praised the New Jersey student for speaking out publicly at the event and said his comments carried additional weight because he identified himself as Jewish. “I bet his grandmother would be proud, but also sad that it needed to be said,” one user wrote.

Others questioned why the university invited an Israeli soldier to speak at all, arguing that the event was likely to spark controversy given the ongoing conflict and rising tensions on college campuses across the United States.

Some commenters, however, criticized the student and disputed parts of his speech. A few users claimed there was “no way” his grandmother could have personally spoken to him about the Holocaust because of the timeline involved. Others pushed back on that criticism, noting that Holocaust survivors and people born during that period are still alive today and that someone can have a living grandmother connected to that history.

Several users also reflected more broadly on the conflict itself, saying the situation showed how ideals such as “never again” continue to be challenged by modern wars and humanitarian crises worldwide.
