Recent reports have revealed that Johnny Depp has finally received Amber Heard’s $1 million settlement. The news comes six months after the conclusion of Johnny Depp and Amber Heard’s highly publicized bitter divorce and defamation case. According to the reports, the Pirates of the Caribbean star will give the money to charity. Depp is believed to have the intention of splitting the funds among several organizations that are very dear to his heart. Many believe this move will help rebuild the Hollywood star’s tarnished reputation.
Amber Heard’s $1 Million Settlement Will Go to Charity
Months after Johnny Depp and Amber Heard’s furious legal battles ended, Depp has decided on what to do with Amber Heard’s $1 million settlement. According to TMZ, the actor won’t keep a dime for himself, as the large sum will go to charity. The outlet further mentioned that the money would be divided evenly across Depp’s favorite five non-profits, each receiving $200,000. The charities reportedly comprise organizations that help sick children with life-threatening illnesses and provide housing for deprived communities.
The five non-profit organizations chosen are The Painted Turtle, Tetiaroa Society, Make-A-Film Foundation, Red Feather, and the Amazonia Fund Alliance. According to insiders, Depp chose the first two as a homage to Paul Newman and Marlon Brando — two heroes in his life. Newman and Brando reportedly played significant roles in founding the charities and making them successful. As a result, Depp opted to continue their legacies by making the $200,000 donations.
For Make-A-Film Foundation, insiders revealed the 60-year-old chose the charity because he did a short movie with them in the past. The organization grants kids’ wishes with help from those within the acting world. On the other hand, Red Feather and Amazonia focus on helping indigenous communities maintain their culture and heritage. They do this through shelters and large-scale infrastructure projects.
Inside Johnny Depp and Amber Heard’s Divorce
Johnny Depp and Amber Heard tied the knot in 2015. Unfortunately, the union didn’t last long, ending abruptly in 2017. Following the end of their marriage, the movie stars entered one of the most bitter divorces recorded in Hollywood. The court case revealed disturbing allegations of domestic abuse, with Depp and Heard accusing each other of violence during their marriage. After years of back and forth, the pair finally came to an agreement in December 2022.
The court instructed Heard to pay $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million (later reduced to $365,000) in punitive damages. Since the five-year court battle ended, Johnny Depp and Amber Heard have focused on their careers. Hopefully, the pair will put their differences aside someday and embrace forgiveness and reconciliation.
