A decision from the New York jury has been sent. Jonathan Majors was found guilty of two out of four counts of misdemeanor abuse and harassment charges, which also resulted in him being fired by Marvel Studios and Disney. The actor awaits sentencing, which will be conducted on February 6, and he could spend up to a year in jail.
The jury had taken less than three days to come to the verdict. The three men and three women deciding his fate had found him guilty of reckless assault and harassment. He was not found guilty of intentional assault in the third degree and of aggravated harassment in the second degree against ex-girlfriend Grace Jabbari, whom he met when working on Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
Marvel Studios Fired Jonathan Majors Hours After Being Found Guilty of Abuse and Harassment
Jonathan Majors was poised to take on becoming one of the biggest actors in the industry before the incident in March that resulted in the trial that found him guilty. He had struck attention with HBO’s Lovecraft Country, an adaptation of the Matt Ruff novel of the same name. He was then announced to be Kang, the big bad in the Multiverse Saga in the MCU. He appeared in two seasons of Loki and Quantumania. He was set to headline two Avengers movies before being let go. Deadline had been the first to confirm the studio’s decision to let him go.
Marvel has not confirmed if it will recast Jonathan Majors after his guilty verdict today or if the story will pivot to another villain.
The at-the-time accusations and now verdict have had a ripple effect on both the actor and the industry. It put a dark cloud over the cast and crew of Creed III and Quantumania. Searchspotlight had him in a bodybuilder film titled Magazine Dreams. The film was praised at Sundance, but since things took a dark turn, the studio pulled its theatrical release and left the film’s future in limbo.
