According to a press release from CBS earlier this week, Jordan Peele is set to produce the remake of a beloved classic: The Twilight Zone. Peele, the brilliant mind behind Get Out and Key and Peele, will be working alongside Simon Kinberg (X-Men: Apocalypse) and Marco Ramirez (Netflix’s Defenders) to bring the classic horror show back to life. Rumors of Peele’s involvement began to circulate in November of this year.
The premiere episode will be the collaborative effort of Peele, Kinberg, and Ramirez. Upon its release, The Twilight Zone will be available exclusively on CBS All Access, the network’s stand-alone streaming service. In the press release, Peele stressed the importance of bringing the 60’s classic to today’s audiences, “Too many times this year it’s felt we were living in a twilight zone, and I can’t think of a better moment to reintroduce it to modern audiences.”
The Twilight Zone is a science fiction, horror anthology television series created by Rod Sterling in 1959. It was incredibly popular and ran until 1964. Modern shows, like The X-Files and Black Mirror, are heavily influenced by the old classic. Using elements of horror, thriller, science fiction, and fantasy, these stories pick at the fears of every human being as they attempt to teach some kind of moral lesson.
This is not the first time that a remake of The Twilight Zone has been discussed. It was remade in 1985 and once again in 2002. CBS attempted to reboot the series in 2012 with Brian Singer, director of X-Men: Apocalypse. However, nothing ever came from the partnership. Sadly, CBS has yet to announce a release window for the most recent reboot.
