A beloved novelist is becoming a director. American Psycho author Bret Easton Ellis is making his directorial debut with a horror movie with Stranger Things breakout star Joseph Quinn. The “elevated horror” film will be titled Relapse. It is currently up for sale from SND.
The soon-to-be Quiet Place: Day One and Gladiator 2 star will play Matt Cullen, an addict who checks himself into rehab after witnessing a death at a party. Three months later, he lives at his parents’ mansion in Los Angeles, but things seem off.
Relapse Marks the Directorial Debut of Author Bret Easton Ellis, Which Stars Joseph Quinn in the Elevated Horror Movie
As reported by Variety, the author will direct and write the upcoming film. Simon Wallon, Nicolas Rolland, and Rémi Jimenez will produce.
Bret Easton Ellis has had ties to the movie world while staying on the sidelines in his literary realm. Many of his beloved books have been adapted, like American Psycho and The Rules of Attraction. The Shards, his latest novel from 2023, follows teenagers during a time in which L.A. faces a rampaging serial killer. The novel is currently in development to be turned into a series from HBO.
Joseph Quinn going into a horror movie is fitting as his career takes off post-Stranger Things. His stint on the fourth Netflix season gained him popularity for his beloved metalhead, Eddie Mudson. This year, he will have a significant boost in star power as he will appear in A Quiet Place: Day One in June and then Gladiator 2 in November.
No release window has been set for Relapse.
