Comedians are facing a big challenge in this age and time. And Judy Gold is speaking on comedians slowly losing their craft to the limitation of their creativity. The stand-up comic veteran admitted that comedians are in a precarious situation.
Comedians in a Precarious Situation Says Judy Gold
Judy Gold is petrified by how the public treats comedians. Comedians are in a time where they are not allowed to touch on specific topics, and Judy isn’t having it. For her current off-Broadway show, Yes, I Can Say That! Judy, however, interviewed young comedians to get their opinion on the state of comedy.
From the interactions, the stand-up comic veteran discovered that these upcoming comedians are being censored. Judy, however, found that censorship goes as far as preventing the newbies from getting stage time in certain clubs. The comic veteran let known her disdain for this limitation in an exclusive on Page Six.
“They told me that in order to get stage time in certain clubs, mostly in Brooklyn, they are not allowed to broach certain topics or use certain phrases,” she exclusively told Page Six. “And that scares me the most about the future of stand-up.”
Also, the Daytime Emmy winner condemned social media’s culture of bringing up a comedian’s jokes from the past.
“The world was a different place, and the words have different meanings,” she explained. “It’s like being in a bad relationship where someone is constantly bringing up the s–t you did 10 years ago. But here we are. We are in a really precarious situation,” she concluded.
Judy Gold on Comedians Getting Censored
From the actions taken by Judy, it is clear that Judy is also passionate about the trend of limiting the craft. The show, which tackles these issues, is based on her earlier released book “Yes, I Can Say That: When They Come for the Comedians, We Are All in Trouble” of a similar premise.
Moreover, Judy Gold’s brave fight against canceling comedians has been long coming. Judy’s book was the first step, and her one-person comedy show is next in her resolve to change the narrative.
