Julie Chrisley is still in federal prison but for a moment, that seemed to not be the case. For a few days in late August to early September, the Chrisley Knows Best star was not in the custody of the Federal Bureau of Prisons. This was confirmed to Channel 2 Action News in Atlanta.
For days, fans were wondering what this meant for Julie. She is due to be resentenced later this month and learn how long she can expect to be in jail. Julie is currently 22 months into what was a seven-year sentence.
Some fans suggested it was the beginning of Julie’s transfer for resentencing, but the status didn’t change for days. The trip from FMC Lexington, where she’s served her sentence thus far, to Atlanta, where court proceedings will occur, doesn’t require such long travel. Others suggested she could still be incarcerated but not in federal custody. The circumstances where that might apply are unclear, however.
A Statement About Julie’s Whereabouts Was Released This Week
Following online speculation and concern over Julie Chrisley’s well-being, the Federal Bureau of Prisons released a statement. They provided context to Julie’s status, not specifically commenting on her situation.
There are several reasons why an individual may be referenced as ‘not in BOP custody’ … Incarcerated individuals who were previously in FBOP custody and who have not completed their sentence may be outside FBOP custody for a period of time for court hearings, medical treatment, or other reasons.
On Thursday, Sept. 5, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution was about to confirm that Julie is now in FBOP custody. They declined to comment any further on her location or the reason she was briefly not in their custody, citing “safety, security, or privacy reasons.”
While people are happy to know Julie’s whereabouts, the mystery has left more questions than answers. Savannah Chrisley, who has spoken out on her parents’ behalf throughout their time in jail, has not commented on the situation at this time. However, some feel Savannah could offer an explanation in an upcoming episode of her podcast, Unlocked. Chrisley fans will surely be tuned in.
