One of Steven Spielberg’s classic adaptations is getting a sequel but in the form of a current-gen game. At The Game Awards 2023, Saber Interactive delivered a thrilling trailer for Jurassic Park: Survival, a first-person horror game set after the original film’s events (seen below). It will be available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. No release date has been attached.
Jurassic Park: Survival Trailer Revealed at The Game Awards 2023
According to the game’s official website, we will play scientist Dr. Maya Joshi. The doctor has been left behind after the main characters from the film escaped. While not labeled as a survival horror game, it does lean into the original film’s horror tendencies as dinosaurs lurk in the shadows hunting Maya.
Based on the trailer shown at The Game Awards, it is difficult to tell how open Jurassic Park: Survival will be. The game’s site promises fans that they will be able to explore a “fully realized Isla Nublar filled with reactive wildlife, dinosaurs, and other surprising threats.” Just from the footage, we will get all the iconic places in the park, from the kitchen the children had to hide in at the Visitor Center and the fire-lit gates that welcome guests into the park.
Gameplay-wise, it is unclear what we will do in the game. From what we saw, it will include stealth and ways to escape dinosaurs, like closing doors to block a path. It will also have players “use all the resources” that they find for potential “intelligent solutions to endure the many threats.”
The movies are up in the air, but The Game Awards revealing Jurassic Park: Survival shows that we will not be missing out on our favorite unethical destination. The Jurassic World trilogy with Chris Pratt concluded last year. For games, Jurassic Park Evolution 2 lets people scratch that sim itch by running the park.
