FX has released the teaser trailer for Justified: City Primeval, which sees the return of Raylan Givens in a new city (seen below). We only see him walk by to pick up his hat, but it sets up what kind of violence and crime will be dealt with by the U.S. Marshal. The series debuts on Hulu on July 18.
The Justified: City Primeval teaser gives a taste of Detroit. Timothy Olyphant’s U.S. Marshal is in Miami, where he balances his job and is a part-time father of a teenage daughter. After an encounter goes wrong, he finds himself in Detroit for a new villain, Clement Mansell, a.k.a. The Oklahoma Wildman. He already got away from local law enforcement, but with the Marshal on his tail, things will be a new challenge for the antagonist. Meanwhile, Clement’s lawyer, Carolyn Wilder, tries to represent her client while having her agenda.

Timothy Olyphant holds down the side of the returning cast. He is met with plenty of newcomers, with Boyd Holbrook (The Sandman) as Clement and Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor (King Richard) as Carolyn. Other new arrivals include Alexander Pobutsky (Daughter of the Bride), Vondie Curtis-Hall (Daredevil), Marin Ireland (Homeland), and Adelaide Clemens (Rectify).
We only get a small taste of Justified: City Primeval in the teaser, but with some core minds behind it, then it should be in safe hands. While its lead star produces to have a greater say in the making, original series executive producers Dave Andron and Michael Dinner serve as showrunners and writers. Other people from the original FX series include director Jon Avnet back in the director’s chair, producer and writer Taylor Elmore, and executive producer and writer Chris Provenzano.
The premiere will release the first two episodes before going weekly for each episode of its eight-episode run.
