After losing her life, being resurrected, and finding out she is a mutant, Kamala Khan goes back to where it all began. Five issues later, Ms. Marvel is back in the oversized Amazing Spider-Man #31 for a new story from Zeb Wells and David Lopez. The newly minted X-Man reunites with Spider-Man to learn what happened in her final moments. This backup story propels Ms. Marvel on her new mission for the X-Men in the upcoming Ms. Marvel: The New Mutant.
Kamala Khan’s Worst/Best Summer
Kamala Khan is on a mission to understand her last moments on Earth before the resurrection on Krakoa. In Hellfire Gala #1, Cyclops explains the resurrection protocols to the new mutant. He then sends her on a mission to understand how she ended up dead. This leads her back to New York and to Spider-Man.
Amazing Spider-Man #26 saw Kamala sacrificing herself to stop the Emissary. The shape-changing hero disguised herself as Mary Jane Watson, knowing the villain needed to sacrifice MJ to become the God of Death. As she dies in Spidey’s arms, she reveals her identity to the webslinger. This is all recapped to her in Amazing Spider-Man #31 by Spidey himself. Satisfied with the knowledge that she saved the world, Ms. Marvel is about to set out on her new mission for the X-Men.
However, Spider-Man stops her and reveals his identity as Peter Parker. This solidifies the trust between the two heroes and probably means that the duo have more adventures together in their future.
A New Mutant
Speaking of that mission, Kamala Khan is going undercover for her miniseries Ms. Marvel: The New Mutant. This new series, launching August 30, comes from the team of Sabir Pirzada, Carlos Gomez, and Adam Gorham. It is also the debut comic of Ms. Marvel herself, Iman Vellani.
As the Marvel hero grapples with her new identity as a mutant, she must aid the X-Men. She goes on a mission to stop the annihilation of all mutants by Orchis. Previews for the series show the hero getting down and dirty in the sewers, proving she will do everything she can to protect her new family.
