People will say anything when they’re feeling bold enough around other people. That doesn’t mean everything needs to be said out loud. A perfect example of this is what a Karen did when she saw a woman trying on a sweatshirt at a Connecticut Goodwill store. What followed was an interaction that’s enough to make your blood boil, especially understanding that nothing had to be said in the first place. When a Karen can’t mind their own business and chooses to speak up, drama always ensues.
Marissa (@cactus_cannabis_) shared a TikTok video of an interaction she had with a Karen at a Norwich, Connecticut Goodwill. Marissa says the woman called her names for trying on a sweater at the Goodwill store. She then “walked away while also calling me a stupid immature silly little girl,” according to Marissa. Marissa tells the Karen, “You have a lot to say when you’re walking away.” She then walks down the aisles and the Karen continues berating her from across the store.
Marissa says to the woman that she can’t have a “grown conversation” with her and keeps avoiding her. She then asks her, “How about you don’t engage with strangers if you don’t want confrontation?” The entire time, the Karen is blowing her kisses and telling Marissa she “didn’t do anything.” Marissa then follows the Karen around, berating her the entire time. She tells the Karen that she “looks like Goodwill.”
Marissa finally breaks contact with the Karen and walks away to get on with her day. It’s a simple lesson in not confronting somebody if you aren’t about to back up why you said it in the first place. The entire incident could have been avoided if the Karen hadn’t said anything at all. But far too many people get a boost of confidence and think they can say whatever they please.
One commenter pointed out that the Karen “wasn’t ready for that confrontation at all.” It’s obvious that she thought she could say whatever she wanted without consequences, and too many people believe in that these days. Another commenter added, “This actually is how I ALWAYS WISH a rude person gets handled and never see it.”
