People can be cruel, but a police officer’s cruelty often feels worse, just like how one in New Jersey allegedly mistreated an EMT of all people, including their patient. Going by GrizzleWTF on Reddit, the technician shared their experience with a cop while they were assisting a patient suffering from dementia. Afterward, an officer on the scene took the EMT aside and called them unprofessional, which is ironic considering how unprofessional the cop acted later based on their bodycam footage.
GrizzleWTF shared their story on r/NewToEMS, explaining how they had sat down beside their patient after she requested they not stand over her. The officer called the EMT out, saying that what they did was wrong and even passed the criticism up the chain. Fortunately for them, karma would be served, and hundreds of Redditors tuned into the post to savor it.
As the technician recalled, they were eventually called into their supervisor’s office but were determined to be innocent of any violations. On the other hand, the supervisor advised GrizzleWTF to file a report against the officer, based on what was seen from his bodycam attached to the report. “He used improper language towards me while describing the patient as well as disrepectful to the patients family on scene,” the technician recalled.
The footage was recorded along with evidence that the officer had told the technician “how inappropriate and unprofessional it was for them to listen to a ‘lady that can’t even remember she exists’.” As advised, the cop was reported to the EMT’s chain of command. “In a way he pretty much turned himself in…” GrizzleWTF remarked, pointing out how it was the rude officer who allegedly started all this on himself.
Almost Every Redditor Agreed the Police Officer Had No Reason to Say What He Did
Just about everyone in the comment section slammed the New Jersey police officer for his unacceptable behavior. “You need to report the officer! She’s elderly with dementia, she’s still a freaking human being!” exclaimed a commenter in disbelief. “Cop is on a power trip and water is wet,” sighed another.
“It may help to remind you that police officers do not require as much education as you do. That probably explains their behavior,” adds a third. GrizzleWTF responded, sharing how the wording of the cop’s complaint against them “reads like something written by a fourth grader upset on a playground,” which is quite telling.
In the end, the EMT was in the right, as one commenter put it: “Patient care is what matters, not some cop’s opinion.” Though it’s quite ironic how this officer and plenty of others in viral videos online often forget that their bodycam footage eventually holds them accountable for their words and actions. After all, police are supposed to protect and serve, not harass or badmouth.
