Kate Beckinsale juxtaposed a heartfelt Mother’s Day (U.K.) tribute to her mother, Judy Loe, with a few snapshots of her under supervision in hospital. The 50-year-old English actress celebrated this past week, which was Mother’s Day in the U.K. and also Judy’s birthday, by sharing a collage of pictures to her Instagram featuring her mother, her dogs, and Kate herself in bad shape.
Mother’s Day Tarnished By Surprise Hospital Visit
“Happy birthday and UK Mother’s Day this last week to my incredible mother,” she wrote. “Thank you to those that love us and support us when it’s s— and try to make sure there are some bits that aren’t.”
She continued: “Thank you for loving us, those who do, and for the amazing, kindest Nick, and especially for my mother’s capacity for joy. It is so inspiring and beautiful. Happy everything mama. Your fight for joy despite also welcoming tears is the experience of watching a warrior up close. I love you x.”
Beckinsale only mentions being “sick” and never alludes to what her specific status or condition could be. This has left fans to speculate the reason she was admitted.
“Are you OK? Why are you in a hospital? Please get well soon,” one wrote.
“No context hospital pics don’t sit well with me,” another said.
Beckinsale’s Second Big Health Scare
Back in 2019, Beckinsale informed the public of a health scare concerning a ruptured ovarian cyst. These are sacs, usually filled with fluid, in an ovary or on its surface. Ovarian cysts are common and cause little or no discomfort — most of the time — as the cysts are usually harmless. But sometimes the cysts can twist or burst open, causing severe symptoms.
“Turns out a ruptured ovarian cyst really hurts and morphine makes me cry. So thankful to everyone who looked after me,” she shared in an Instagram post at the time.
One follower mistook an image for a selfie, accusing Beckinsale of chasing clout and looking for sympathy by sharing herself in such a vulnerable state. She fought back against the accusations by speaking her mind about Instagram as a platform for honesty and communication, especially for celebrities permanently in the limelight.
“I have Instagram largely to have my own honest narrative and not have to always be ambushed by stories that come out that are invented, I’d prefer to say what happened than endure speculation and so I chose to share.”
“I agree, it’s not a normal impulse. But it’s not normal to be photographed in vulnerable situations by people you don’t know either. (If you were interested in knowing the provenance of this, which, you probably are not).”
We can only assume that Beckinsale will — in her own time — inform fans that she is (hopefully) on the road to recovery from whatever ails her.
