While the Marvel Cinematic Universe captures the majority of headlines, the Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters is making big movies too. Most recently, the Sony franchise has reportedly offered Keanu Reeves the role of Sergei Nikolaevich Kravinoff, aka Kraven the Hunter.
The report comes according to The Illuminerdi, who has a track record of providing accurate industry information. It states that Sony has made an “official offer” for the Matrix and John Wick star. However, the role of Kraven is still unconfirmed. At the moment, Reeves has not responded to the offer. The movie, apparently titled Kraven, is expected to carry a dark tone similar to Man on Fire and Logan. The movie will reportedly loosely adapt Kraven’s Last Hunt. In August, Sony hired J.C. Chandor (Triple Frontier) to direct Kraven.
Reeves has been tapped for several Marvel roles in the past. Many fans have wanted to see him as Moon Knight or Wolverine. It seems as if Kraven might finally be his role.
Created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, Kraven the Hunter first appeared in 1964. He is one of Spider-Man’s most iconic villains. Sony’s Kraven movie would mark the first time the character has ever been brought into live-action.

If it happens, Reeves will be joining good company in the franchise of Spider-Man villains. So far, it includes Tom Hardy as Venom and Jared Leto as Morbius. This won’t be his debut playing a superhero. In 2005, he played John Constantine in Constantine.
The Sony movie franchise has been put on pause for a while due to the pandemic. Venom: Let there be Carnage was meant to come out in 2020 but is now set for June 25. Similarly, Jared Leto’s Morbius was due for 2021 and will arrive next year. Meanwhile, Keanu Reeves is currently awaiting the release of The Matrix 4. Finally, after over a decade of waiting, we’ll see him return as Neo.
