Kevin Costner has been the center of a lot of controversy surrounding Paramount’s hit television show, Yellowstone. The 65-year-old has been telling many that he plans to return for at least a cameo in the first half of Season 5. There are also rumors that Costner may have more of a significant role. However, as of right now, there is no official conversation about Kevin returning. Yellowstone’s co-creator and writer, Taylor Sheridan, did not write Costner into the series’ final episodes.
According to US Weekly, besides Yellowstone, Kevin Costner is focused on his upcoming movie. Tilted Horizon: A Western Saga, the film will span over 15 years of settling the American Western Frontier. This new project may be why Costner wanted to leave his role as John Dutton.
Kevin Costner and Taylor Sheridan’s Falling Out Seems Permanent
“Even if Costner significantly lowers his financial and time commitment demands, Sheridan may not want to bother reopening his finished scripts to accommodate a send-off for John Dutton,” a source previously reported. “But the Yellowstone fans would certainly love it, which Costner knows and hopes to leverage, as he always does.”
Sheridan did come out and say that he did not have any issues with Kevin Costner that would have led up to the actor wanting to leave the show. Taylor continued by saying he never had an issue with Kevin that they could not work out over the phone. The show’s writer also stated that Costner’s off-camera actions would not affect John’s fate.
Another source says something a little different, though. Rumors have been swirling that Costner was not happy with the amount of input he was allowed after Yellowstone became a hit. Many think this is what caused the friction between Costner and Sheridan.
Yellowstone’s final episodes will be released in November 2024 via the Paramount Network. This series is coming to an end with or without Kevin Costner, although many fans would like the actor to return.
