Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 is shaping up to be one of the strongest contenders for 2025, and its developers are well aware of what they’re contending with. In a recent interview with GamesRadar, one of the lead Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 devs spoke up about not backing down against some of the more established heavy hitters releasing in February 2025. Thus, Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 devs are confident about their game’s AAA status.
The lead dev in question is none other than Warhorse Studios’ senior game designer, Ondřej Bittner. Bittner has been a part of the Kingdom Come Deliverance series ever since the first game in 2018 and even recalled how that one was a risk though it did pay off. Kingdom Come Deliverance practically put Warhorse Studios in the same club as some of the more distinguished AAA developer studios.
“Now we learn, kind of, to sit at the big boy table. We’re positively confident in our own product.
Some of the games releasing are just the things that will steal media coverage, but the player bases are not really alike, so you’re not afraid [of] that… I think, if this happened with the first game, morale would be crushed,” explains Bittner to GamesRadar+.
For reference, February 2025 is a busy month for gamers and something even more dangerous for our wallets. After Kingdom Come Deliverance 2‘s release date, Civilization 7 will follow soon on February 11. Avowed, which is the most similar to Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, will then come out on February 18. Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii will take February 21. And finally, Monster Hunter Wilds will be dominating on February 28.
February is Packed
That’s a lot of long-awaited AAA games with their established fandoms or veteran developer studios. A relatively fresh challenger like Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 could be at risk of lower sales since some players might be saving up for the other AAA titles. Thankfully, Avowed is available on Xbox Game Pass, making it accessible (or even essentially free, depending on your subscription), so that’s somewhat less competition.
Some speculations in the past months even point to how even a huge game like Assassin’s Creed: Shadows might have been delayed from its original February 14 release by Ubisoft because of how competitive February 2025 is. Assassin’s Creed: Shadows has been moved to March 20, 2025. Ubisoft’s reason for the delay, however, was to polish the game further.
Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 is no slouch, though, with its predecessor selling over 8 million copies since 2018. The reviews are also quite stellar, something you can check out for yourself on our site. It’s worth noting that Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 has also suffered a delay in 2024.
Still, Ondřej Bittner of Warhorse Studios further believes that much of Kingdom Come Deliverance 2‘s financial success will come from staggered purchases past the first day of release. Such was the case for its predecessor.
