Fans of the 2019 whodunnit mystery movie Knives Out can look forward to Private Detective Benoit Blanc’s return later this year. Knives Out 2 will be released in theaters and on Netflix in the Fall of 2022.
Variety reports that Rian Johnson’s sequel to his acclaimed 2019 film will be in theaters and streaming on Netflix this Fall after an expected festival run. It is unknown which festivals the film is expected to be released at. Details of the film’s plot are unknown, although it is known that Daniel Craig will reprise his role as Benoit Blanc from the first film. Other cast members include Kathryn Hahn, Ethan Hawke, Edward Norton, Dave Bautista, Kate Hudson, Janelle Monáe, Leslie Odom Jr, Jessica Henwick, and Madelyn Cline. While it is now known that Knives Out 2 will be released in the Fall, there is no official release date yet.
The original Knives Out was a major success, earning $311 million on a $40 million budget. The film also earned much critical acclaim as well as BAFTA and Oscar nominations for Johnson for Best Original Screenplay. The story was highly influenced by the works of Agatha Christie, as Detective Blanc sought to discover what caused the mysterious death of the wealthy patriarch of the Drysdale family. Knives Out 2 will feature Detective Blanch attempting to solve yet another mysterious murder.
It was announced in March of 2021 that Netflix purchased the sequels to Knives Out for $469 million. Members of our team discussed this in an episode of Nerds Talk Movies back in April. A third Knives Out film is also included in Netflix’s purchase.
