After nearly six years, the internet is rumbling again as their prayers might be getting answered with a possible Silent Hill release.
Aki Saito, head of communications at Hideo Kojima’s studio, tweeted fans saying, “Sorry to be silent everyone,” Saito said. “I’ve been really busy lately… I think I can say more soon about what we are going to…”
PT is short for Playable Teaser of the canceled Silent Hills project headed by Hideo Kojima and Guillermo del Toro. The horror game was canned after the split between Kojima and publisher Konami in 2015.
Konami removed PT off the PSN store, and the only gamers that still have access to it are those who never deleted it (like myself).
Fans are speculating over the tweet using the word silent and the use of a pyramid branded pencil. Usually, this can be considered reaching for anybody else, but Kojima is notorious for teasing easter eggs leading into projects.
This tweet comes after Kojima teased the next project back in January by tweeting, “Working on the next concept while no one is in the office.” The connections here being pieced together is that he’s working in a silent office featuring a hill on his desktop background and the Pyramid Head is a famous figure from Silent Hill.
Kojima says he’s also recently been rewatching The Joy to “awaken my horror soul.” This is the same film he watched during the development of PT
It’s Complicated
Kojima’s departure from Konami resulted from the time he took to develop games such as the then-upcoming Metal Gear Solid V. This resulted in him being fired near the end of the project and the last third of the game never being finished for release.
He left Konami, taking several staff with him to start up Kojima Productions. They teamed up with Sony to release 2019’s Death Stranding, which went on to become the biggest launch of a new IP in Japan. The title starred Norman Reedus (The Walking Dead), who was also was the main character of Silent Hill.
Konami owns the rights to the Silent Hill franchise. So, Kojima is either making Silent Hill spiritual successor or somehow patched things up and is being contracted for the project.
Whether this is just fans creating conspiracies or actual teases by KojiPro, next week will see a reveal of their next move.
What did you think of PT? What’s the best horror game of all time? Any genre you wish for Kojima to take on next? Leave a comment!
