Fans of the beloved horror franchise Silent Hill are used to disappointment, but recent rumors that a new game could be on the way gave light towards a possible future. Konami has confirmed that the rumors of a new Silent Hill Game are false.
According to Rely On Horror, they received a statement from a Konami North American PR representative that said:
“We’re aware of all the rumors and reports but can confirm that they are not true. I know it’s not the answer your fans may want to hear,” said the Konami PR representative.
Konami Confirms Silent Hill Rumors Are Not True
What is most surprising from the quote is the acknowledgment that fans want to see a return of Silent Hill. Even though it seems like a win-win scenario, they are still unable to produce a new game.
The revered game developer has changed considerably in recent years. For example, they shifted their game development focus to remaster collections of Castlevania and Contra for modern consoles.
Metal Gear Solid 3 did see a moment in the sun as a new pachinko machine in Japan.
There have been several rumors that have come about recently regarding the future of Silent Hill. Some include a possible revival by SIE Japan Studio, with Silent Hill veterans Keiichiro Toyama, Masahiro Ito, and Akira Yamaoka leading development.
Another rumor was a possible acquisition of the Silent Hill IP by Sony, to then have a game developed by Kojima Productions. Rumors also were spreading that Sony was trying to acquire the rights to Metal Gear Solid and Castlevania from Konami as well.
The Silent Hill franchise has gone through a lot of highs and lows in the past few years. After a possible reboot of the franchise under the direction of Hideo Kojima and Guillermo del Toro, it shuddered after Konami fired Kojima and shelved the game for good.
