After several years, Silent Hill fans finally have something to look forward to. Thanks to an interview conducted by the French media outlet Allocine, we now know that a new Silent Hill movie is in development. According to French filmmaker Christophe Gans, the film is currently in the works along with an adaptation of video game Fatal Frame. This is massive news for Silent Hill fans, given they haven’t gotten much official news since the announcement of the Silent Hills game (which was later canceled).
The movie will not stray from its roots, taking place in a small American town plagued by Puritanism. There isn’t any more news regarding that, but one can hope it’s improved from the previous film. Silent Hill was released in 2006 to poor critical reception, citing its plot and dialogue being the biggest issues. Gans has since directed one film, being 2014’s Beauty and the Beast. He’s also signed on to direct and write a Corto Maltese adaptation, but the status of that is unknown.
Fatal Frame, on the other hand, is being adapted into a film that he’s signed on to direct. The setting will be a Japanese haunted house, thus to not stray from the game’s roots. This isn’t the first time we’ve heard of that film adaptation, but it’s good to hear about it again. If you aren’t already aware of Fatal Frame, it’s a survival horror game franchise from Koei Tecmo. The most recent entry was in 2014 with Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water, which averaged at 67%.
A lot of news for Silent Hill and Fatal Frame fans and many should be excited. If any more news regarding the movies comes up, we’ll be sure to let you know.
