Representative Seth Magaziner confronted Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem this week over deportation issues at a conference in Washington, DC. The heated conversation is enough to give you secondhand embarrassment for Noem. She literally looks like a deer caught in the headlights as she struggles to answer to Congressman Seth Magaziner. But what’s most bizarre is why Noem even bothered to answer. All it did was make the Trump Administration look even more heartless.
Media company Meidas Touch shared a video on TikTok showing an awkward conversation between Noem and Magaziner. In front of various politicians, Magaziner starts by saying “we owe everything” to our veterans in America. When he asks Noem if she agrees with that, she steps around the subject by talking about how she respects veterans with legal status in our country. (So if a veteran was found to be illegal, their sacrifice means nothing then?)
Right after, Magaziner has a live Zoom call brought forth. He explains to Noem the man joining them is an army combat veteran who served the U.S. in Panama back in 1989. He was shot twice while in combat. But, early in 2025, Noem and the administration she works so closely with decided to deport him back to Korea, where he hasn’t lived since he was a child.
Magaziner asks her, “Will you join me in thanking Mr. Park for his service to our country?”
Noem clearly struggles to deal with this harsh confrontation that she herself created. She says, “Sir, I’m grateful for every single person that has served our country and follows our laws.”
Magaziner asks Noem if she’ll do the bare minimum and look at Mr. Park’s case. Most of his life was spent in America, after all. Noem agrees, but Magaziner quickly cuts her off with a second guest, a Jim Brown of Missouri. Jim is a navy combat veteran whose wife, Donna, is facing troubles due to Trump Administration laws. She immigrated legally from Ireland a long time ago is currently in prison for four months over two bad checks and is facing deportation.
Magaziner asks Noem what “possible explanation” she has for Jim on why his wife is facing deportation and jail time. Again, Noem struggles to come up with an answer and says people need to “follow” America’s laws. Seems pretty extreme to kick someone out for what totaled $80 dollars in bad checks a decade ago. No crimes since then.
One commenter pointed out that Magaziner really did his research here. They said, “Bro busted out the live receipts.”
Another commenter stated, “She is in charge of ICE how dare she say she cannot decide how the deportations are handled.” It’s this simple: They just don’t want to. The cruelty is the point. ICE is more than okay with tearing families apart because of citizenship status.
