“Where are our tax dollars going?” asks Reddit user goldlion while they watch a group of menacing officers stand across the street in LA, California, as other police force vehicles drive by. In the video the user uploaded to r/LosAngeles, a young woman can be seen walking on the public sidewalk, trying to get to her apartment. Over half a dozen cops block her path, shouting at her to turn around. Without warning, one of the trigger-happy LAPD cops aiming at the woman opens fire, shooting her and forcing her to retreat away.
However, the shocking video doesn’t stop there. The one recording immediately rushes to help the woman, who’s now crying in pain. She attempts to help the victim sit down and provide her with medical supplies, but the group of LAPD officers then starts to advance towards both of them, weapons aimed. “We’re moving! Stop! She’s injured!” they shout at the cops, who threaten to open fire again if they don’t leave. “I live here!” the wounded woman cries, now both in pain and in despair that violent cops are blocking her way home.
“Email Karen Bass, KTLA, everyone needs to see this and demand assholes like the guy who shot her need to be taken off the streets immediately. LAPD wants to de-escalate this conflict? How about not f***ing shooting innocent people??”
The uploader posted the above with the video on Reddit as evidence of how brutally unjust authorities are treating innocent, unarmed citizens of LA. Needless to say, thousands of users upvoted the clip in support of the victim and criticism of the officers’ actions. “That’s crazy s***, just shooting her point blank. Like why?” a top commenter remarks in disbelief at what happened. Another user replied, saying that the woman “did not present any credible threat to officer safety.” Therefore, there was absolutely no reason to shoot her like that, even if the projectile was a non-lethal metal ball wrapped in rubber. People can still die from hemorrhaging from such an impact.
“Think the media needs to stop focusing on burning waymos and see what else is happening anyway to get this footage and footage like this to them,” another user says, referring to how some media outlets are more focused on unlawful protestors instead of police brutality. “LAPD aren’t here for Angelinos EVER! They suck the city budget dry with lawsuits because they commit so many abuses,” one woman remarks. She goes on to say that she never calls them [police] anymore, as they have never come when she needs them.
“Typical pig behavior. That unarmed, lone woman sure was threatening… ugh. How does anyone look at this and come up with justification for it?” another says in disgust. Unfortunately, this is the state of the US right now. While there are certainly lawful policemen and women out there, the authorities appear to care less and less for the average citizen as they follow the orders of the corrupt ones in power.
