Fresh takes on game modes in a MOBA like League of Legends is a great way to lure in new players and spark the interest of veterans. And let’s face it, sometimes Summoner’s Rift needs a break. And it never hurts to have more options in League, something Riot clearly understands since they’re marking the return of a previously time-limited game mode: Ultimate Spellbook. The mode comes with improvements and new champion abilities to choose from.
Set to release with Patch 14.19, the updated Ultimate Spellbook has you choose 1 of 4 Ulternates at the beginning. But it doesn’t stop there. Now, you’ll be offered even more Ultimates throughout the game.
After 8 minutes pass or you die, you can swap out your Ultimate at the Shop. From there, the re-roll can happen every 6 minutes. You can always keep what you have too, but switching out will come with different bonuses (i.e. stats or gold). It’s a great way to adapt to the ever-changing circumstances in a single match.
Older League Ultimates will also receive a much-needed update with the Ultimate Spellbook changes. They’ve also included extra Ulternate Summoners to pick from to further adjust your playstyle:
- Aurora
- Hwei
- Kennen
- Leona
- Milio
- Nami
- Nautilus
- Ornn
- Smolder
- Ziggs
- Zilean
Additionally, the update features a new element: Ultimate Ammo. Players can score an extra charge for the Ulternate Summoners by killing a Baron, Elder Dragon, or getting Dragon Soul. With this, after you cast your Ultimate, you can cast it again only 3 seconds later.
You can check out all these changes to see if Ultimate Spellbook is a game mode worth jumping back into (or trying for the first time) when League of Legends drops the Patch on September 25, 2024.
