If there was one thing that previous Smash Bros. games were missing it was DLC. While I’m not always a fan of having to pay for parts of a game that were left out of the launch, with Smash, it works. This is because it allows new characters to be added to the roster. And having a wide variety of characters is what Smash is all about. So a leak revealing Ryu and Roy as new DLC fighters can only be good news.

Reportedly, the leak comes from some hackers examining a Japanese update for the game that went live earlier than it should have.
Also revealed in the hack was Ryu’s stage (from Street Fighter II), a Dreamland 64 stage. There was also a Splatoon trophy and costumes from Virtua Fighter, Tekken, Mega Man and Animal Crossing amongst other finds.
Of course, the big news is Ryu and Roy themselves. Anyone who played the second installment (Melee) will remember Fire Emblem’s Roy. In fact, Melee was the first western released game that Roy appeared in (coming out before his own game). He was absent from the previous game’s roster (Brawl).
Then there’s the iconic Street Fighter; Ryu. The poster boy for the legendary fighting franchise, Ryu’s no stranger to fighting games. As a character from a more traditional fighter, some people might argue he’s too serious a character for a lighthearted game like Smash. Or at least they would have before Brawl…
So far, there’s been no word from the house that Mario built with regards to the leak. That said, this probably does put the big N in a bit of an akward position. This is because Ryu and Roy were likely part of their pre-E3 Smash presentation.
