Liberal Keyboard Warriors Dunk on Texas Farmers Who Say Trump Is Crushing Them: ‘They voted to screw over America’

Texas farmers face brutal backlash

Two Texas cattle farmers say they are struggling to keep their business afloat as fuel bills soar and President Donald Trump’s policies squeeze rural America. But online, their complaints have received a decidedly chilly reception.

Robert and Lynn, who run a family beef operation in Smith County, told Sky News that rising taxes, insurance and operating expenses have left them fighting to stay above water.

Their most startling figure was fuel. Lynn said the farm spent “$18,000 for one 30-day period”, compared with roughly $10,000 two or three years ago.

Asked what was driving the increase, she pointed primarily to the conflict involving Iran and its effect on energy markets. U.S. diesel prices have indeed surged during the Middle East conflict, reaching around $6.05 a gallon in September as disruptions around the Strait of Hormuz tightened supplies.

Robert was even more direct about Trump.

“We had no idea he was going to pull the prank with the Strait of Hormuz,” he said, arguing farmers had received little warning about the consequences for oil supplies.

That line was all left-wing Reddit needed.

A segment of the interview clip reached the left-leaning “Leopards Ate My Farm” subreddit, where sympathy was in remarkably short supply.

“No warning huh?? You obviously haven’t paid attention,” one commenter wrote. Another said: “Sorry calling BS, they knew they voted to screw over America, they just didn’t expect it to be them.”

Others argued that Trump’s approach should hardly have come as a surprise, particularly on trade. Trump openly campaigned in 2024 on sweeping tariffs of 10 to 20 percent on most imports, with significantly higher duties proposed for some countries and products. His administration later imposed broad reciprocal tariffs in 2025 before subsequently removing some agricultural products, including beef, from them.

That history became central to the Reddit backlash. One commenter wrote that Trump “said he was going to do it again, and he did,” while another accused frustrated farmers of ignoring warnings because they believed the consequences would fall elsewhere.

There is an important distinction. The thread repeatedly characterizes the farmers as Trump voters, but the supplied Sky transcript does not establish how Robert or Lynn voted.

What it does capture is a widening political argument surrounding rural America’s economic pain. The farmers see sudden policy shocks and international conflict hammering an already fragile business. Their online critics see something else entirely: consequences they believe were foreseeable, finally reaching people who never expected to feel them themselves.
