Square-Enix announced that the first episode of Life is Strange, the award-winning episodic adventure from developer Dontnod, will be able to download for free starting July 21st. The episode will be available for all current platforms and can be downloaded here.

Life is Strange follows the coming of age story of Max, a photography student who discovers she has the ability to rewind time. The story follows Max and her friend Chloe as the attempt to use Max’s power to save their town of Arcadia Bay. As is the case with most time travel stories, and most episodic adventure games, the decisions the player makes as Max will have great effect on later options and the way other characters behave.

The relationship between Max and Chloe is the driving force behind Life is Strange.

The first episode of Life is Strange, entitled Chrysalis sets the tone for the story and introduces the player to Max’s time-rewinding ability. After the first episode is complete, the other episodes are available for purchase from the game’s website. Dontnod released a trailer to introduce the new price:

Life is Strange originally released its first episode in January of 2015. Its fifth and final episode released in October of the same year. It won or received nominations for several awards, including several Game of the Year awards for 2015. It is similar in gameplay to the Telltale adventure games like The Walking Dead and Tales from the Borderlands but tonally tries to capture more of a teen angst, coming of age story. Although it has some issues, we really liked Life is Strange for its interesting puzzle mechanics, powerful story moments, and excellent soundtrack.
